‘Factors that Nullify Emaan’

Allah has made access to Emaan and Islam by affirmation with the tounge and acceptance by the Heart of the Shahadah. Any one who embraces Islam by this channel will not step out of belief unless he says, acts or believes in something which contradicts his previous affirmation and acceptance of Shahadah. 

The things which lead to the abandonment of the religion of Allah, are divided into 4 kinds.

1- The denial or refutation of Allah’s unity of Lordship

2- The refutation of Allah’s unity and His Attributes

3- The refutation of Allah’s unity of worship 

4- The denial of the Message of The prophet or his slander

Each encompasses forms of actions, sayings and beliefs which negate the Shahaadatayan and take a person out of the fold of Islam. We ask Allah to save us from that!

THE FIRST KIND OF DENIAL

The first kind of Tawheed is Unity of Allah in his Rububiyya and His Sovereignty, Al-Mulk. That is, that Allah is the Master and the Creator of the Universe. The Provide for all his creation, and that everything happens according to His will. knowledge and wisdom. Anybody who denies any of these characteristics of Allah either by sayings or action is a Kaafir and apostate. To deny that there is a Creator, or the world is old and not crated, or to attribute the creation of this world to other than Allah such as chance, nature or other things, to deny the Sovereignty of Allah over His creation, or to claim that provision and sustenance are from other than Allah, or to associate others with Him in them leads one to apostasy. It also covers those who claim that Allah crated His creation and neglected them, or that He does not preserve them or decree their affairs, It includes any thing which might violate any characteristic of Allah which have been revealed to us. 

It is an act of Kufr and apostasy if a person claims for himself any of these characteristic, as if to claim that he is the Lord. 

It is also an act of kafur and apostasy if a person claims to be the sovereign, the provider or to do anything by his own will and decree. Anyone else believing in this person’s claim is also a Kaafir and apostate.

THE SECOND KIND OF DENIAL

Apostasy may cover the refutation of the second kind of Tawheed, Unity of Names and Attributes of Allah, We confirm those Attributes of Allah which He confirmed for Himself and which His Messenger Muhammad confirmed for Him, and reject those Attributes of Allah which He did not confirm for Him. One who denies or reject any of Allah’s Attributes which, He or His messenger has confirmed for Him, is a Kafir. He who seeks to confirm anything of Allah which His prophet did not confirm is a Kafir.

THE THIRD KIND OF DENIAL

This covers any saying, action or belief which negates the third kind of tawheed (Tawheed Al-Uluhiyya), Unity of worship. This Tawheed is the confirmation that Allah is worshipped. If a person says, does or believes in something which denies Allah this right to be worshipped and he rejects any of it or confirms part of it to other than Allah, he becomes a Kaafir and an apostate.

Most disbelievers have adopted Kufr because they deny the fact that only Allah deserves to be worshipped, whether this denial is in the heart, or by words or actions.

THE FOURTH KIND OF DENIAL

It is any word, action or belief which refutes the message of the prophet or discredits him. It is anything which invalidates the testimony that Muhammed is the messenger of Allah. This testimony means we should believe everything confirmed by The Prophet as right and true. This testimony is annulled in two situations. The first is to refute the Prophet. The second is to deny or refute any of the message which was conveyed to the Prophet.

Aspects/Actions Contradicting ones’ Islâm

These ten are the most dangerous and widespread contradicting aspects of Islâm:

First:  

SHIRK IN WORSHIPPING ALLÂH 

Allâh said,

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَغْفِرُ أَنْ يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ

{Allâh forgives not (the sin of) joining other gods with Him; but He forgives whom He pleases other sins than this}.

إِنَّهُ مَنْ يُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَأْوَاهُ النَّارُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ

{Whoever joins other gods with Allâh, Allâh will forbid him the Paradise, and the Fire will be his abode. There will for the wrongdoers be no one to help}.

Calling upon dead people, calling them for help and Nathr (Vows) and Thabh (Slaughtering) for them is considered so.

Second:  

TAKING OTHER CREATURES AS A MEANS OF WORSHIPPING 

Calling and asking them to intercede for them are considered as disbelief unanimously.

Third:  

WHO DOES NOT CONSIDER POLYTHEIST AS DISBELIVERS, OR DOUBTS IN THEIR DISBELIEF 

Who does not consider polytheist as disbelivers, or doubts in their disbelief or tries to accept their religion is a disbeliever.

Fourth:  

WHO BELIEVES THAT THE GUIDANCE OF THE PROPHET IS LESS PERFECT THAN OTHER’S GUIDANCE 

Who believes that the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ is less perfect than other’s guidance or who thinks that His Judgment is worse than other’s judgment, as those who prefer Tawagheet’s rule, is a disbeliever.

Fifth:  

WHOEVER HATES SOMETHING OF WHAT THE PROPHET HAS BEEN SENT WITH 

Whoever hates something of what the Prophet ﷺ has been sent with even if he applies it, is a disbeliever, for Allâh said,

ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ

{That is because they hate the Revelation of Allâh; so He has made their deeds fruitless.}

Sixth:  

WHO MOCKS AT SOMETHING OF WHAT THE PROPHET HAS BEEN SENT WITH 

Who mocks at something of what the Prophet ﷺ has been sent with or at the Reward or the Punishments he has informed about, is a disbeliever.

This is because Allâh said,

قُلْ أَبِاللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ. لا تَعْتَذِرُوا قَدْ كَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ

{Say (O Muhammad r): “Was it at Allâh, and His Signs, and His Messenger, that you were mocking?” Make you no excuses: you have rejected Faith after you had accepted it}.

Seventh:  

MAGIC 

Magic including distraction and commiseration (two major kinds of magic, by which magicians can distract two people from each other of make them love each other). So whosoever does this or accepts being done is a disbeliver.

Allâh said,

وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّى يَقُولا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلا تَكْفُرْ

{But neither of these taught anyone (such things) without saying, “We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme}.

Eighth:  

SUPPORTING AND AIDING POLYTHEISTS AGAINST BELIEVERS 

For Allâh said,

وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّهُمْ مِنْكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ

{And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allâh guides not a people unjust}.

Ninth:  

WHOSOEVER THINKS THAT HE COULD LIVE AWAY FROM THE ISLÂMIC LAW IS A DISBELIEVER 

For Allâh said,

وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الإسْلامِ دِينًا فَلَنْ يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ الْخَاسِرِينَ

{If anyone desires a religion other than Islâm never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good)}.

Tenth:  

TURNING AWAY FROM THE RELIGION OF ALLÂH (ISLÂM) 

Turning away from the Religion of Allâh (Islâm) not learning and not teaching it is disbelief, Allâh said,

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ ذُكِّرَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا إِنَّا مِنْ الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ

{And who does more wrong than one to whom are recited the Signs of his Lord, and who then turns away therefrom? Verily from those who transgress We shall exact (due) Retribution}.

All these contradictions are applicable to all people. No matter if one is serious or not, afraid or not, except those who are compelled, for Allâh said,

إِلا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُ مُطْمَئِنٌّ بِالإيمَانِ

{..Except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in}.

All of these contradictions are the most dangerous and the most widespread phenomenon among people; therefore, Muslim has to be careful of them for the sake of himself. May Allâh protect us from what may entail His Anger, and necessitate His Punishment.

TIPS OF TEST

  1. Do not have to memorise the ayahs or hadeeths word for word and their references, but remember their meanings and the msg being given.
  2. Remember all the 10 aspects.
